Which tarot card are you?

Most quizzes like this run on a scoring table somebody made up. This one uses the deck's own structure: it works out your element and your mode, those two give a temperament, and the temperament has a trump. The whole method is on the page.

1. A free Saturday with no plans. What actually happens?
2. Something has gone wrong at work. Your first instinct is to
3. How do you know you have made the right decision?
4. The thing people most often get wrong about you is that you are
5. What exhausts you fastest?
6. A friend is going through something hard. You
7. A group project with no obvious leader. Within an hour,
8. Plans change at short notice. You
9. Something you have worked on for a year stops being fun.
10. Which criticism has actually landed on you before?

The ten cards this quiz will never give you

Only twelve of the twenty-two majors carry a zodiac sign. The other ten are planetary, so no temperament maps to them and they are not on the table: The Fool, The Magician, The High Priestess, The Empress, Wheel of Fortune, The Hanged Man, The Tower, The Sun, Judgement and The World.

A quiz that could return all twenty-two would be using invented weights rather than the deck’s structure. We would rather have a smaller honest mechanism than a bigger opaque one. That reasoning is set out on the editorial policy page.

Which Tarot Card Rules Your Star Sign?

Every zodiac sign carries one Major Arcana card, plus three numbered cards and a court card. Here is the full map, where it comes from, and how old it actually is.

What Is a Tarot Birth Card? The Maths, Shown

Add your birth date up and reduce it, and you land on one or more Major Arcana. Here is the arithmetic in full, why people get different numbers of cards, and how old the idea is.

About the quiz

Straight answers, without the mystique.

  • It measures two things: your element (fire, water, air or earth) and your mode (cardinal, fixed or mutable). Four elements times three modes is twelve combinations, and those twelve are the twelve zodiac signs. Each sign carries one Major Arcana card in the Golden Dawn system, and that card is your result. Nothing is hidden: the tally is printed with the answer.

  • Because only twelve of the twenty-two majors carry a zodiac sign. The other ten are planetary, and no temperament maps to them, so this quiz will never return one. A quiz that could return all twenty-two would be using a scoring table somebody invented rather than the deck's own structure.

  • Only if your answers happen to describe your sign, and plenty of people's do not. This measures how you answered ten questions today, not your birth date. If you want the card your birthday reduces to, that is the birth card calculator, and it is a different thing entirely.

  • It is a good way into the Major Arcana and a poor way to learn about yourself. Ten questions cannot know you. What it can honestly do is hand you one archetype to read properly, which is more use than a keyword list.
