The sixteen court cards are the hardest part of the deck, and not because the meanings are difficult. It is that the card will not tell you whether it means another person, you, or something you could do. This narrows the sixteen, and then helps with the part that actually matters.
What this tool will not do
It will not identify a person by age, gender or colouring. That convention is old, it is still printed in plenty of books, and it is not reliable enough to put in front of somebody who is trying to work out whether a card is about their partner. A rank is a maturity within an element, not a demographic.
It also will not tell you what another person is thinking. Nothing can. The most a reading honestly reaches is what is being expressed into a situation from where you sit.

About court cards
Straight answers, without the mystique.
Start with the position it landed in. If the spread has a slot for another person, take it as a person. If it landed in a position about you, read it as the stance you are taking, especially if you would rather it was about somebody else. If neither fits, read it as an approach, because that is the version you can act on.
That is a genuinely old convention and a genuinely unreliable one. Nothing on this site uses it. A King is not a man and a Page is not a child; they are ranks of maturity within an element, and reading them as demographics leads to some very confident wrong answers.
Pages are beginners and messages: something new arriving or somebody new to this. Knights are movement and single-mindedness, fast and not weighing much on the way. Queens hold rather than push, mastery turned inward. Kings are authority exercised outwardly and accountably.
The situation is populated: other people are shaping it and it will not resolve by you deciding something alone. Two of the same rank is its own signal, and two Kings in particular is almost always a question about whose call something actually is.
