JudgementJudgement · In Health
What does Judgement mean for health?
Judgement in a health reading, read as reflection rather than diagnosis, and where the line between those sits.
In health and wellbeing
A turning point in a long condition, and recovery that follows from finally facing something.
Read as reflection rather than diagnosis, the card describes the point at which a health matter is looked at whole: the appointment made, the test taken, the pattern acknowledged after years of managing pieces of it.
Reversed, avoiding a diagnosis you suspect. That is the single most useful thing this card does, and the honest reading of it is one sentence long: if you have been putting off finding out, make the appointment. Nothing in a deck can tell you what is happening in your body, and this card is largely about no longer using anything as a reason to wait.
Upright
Awakening, absolution, a calling. Reviewing your life honestly and choosing accordingly. Second chances, reunions, and long-delayed forgiveness of others or of yourself.
The distinguishing feature is scope. Justice weighs one matter; Judgement takes the whole of it at once, which is why the card so often arrives at the end of a long period rather than in the middle of a situation.
In an advice position it asks for an honest total rather than another adjustment. It is a poor card for tinkering and a strong one for the decision that has been available for years.
Reversed
Ignoring the call. Harsh self-judgement standing in for actual change. Refusing to forgive, or refusing to be forgiven.
The second is the one to watch, because it looks like accountability. Somebody who is extremely hard on themselves and has changed nothing has substituted the feeling of reckoning for the act of it, and the card reversed is unusually good at spotting the difference.
Also read for the reckoning postponed, which does not make it go away and generally makes it larger. The tradition is not threatening about this so much as arithmetical.
Keywords
Upright: awakening, reckoning, calling, absolution, rebirth, evaluation
Reversed: self-condemnation, ignored calling, refusing forgiveness, avoidance
An important note
For reflection and entertainment. Not medical, legal, or financial advice.
Tarot does not diagnose. A card that mentions a body system is describing a symbolic association, not a medical finding. If something is wrong, see a doctor, and if a reading is making you anxious about your health, that anxiety is worth taking to a professional too.
Journal prompts
- If I looked at the whole of it honestly, what would I have to admit?
- What am I being called to that I keep declining?
- Who, including me, am I refusing to forgive, and what is it costing?
Draw it for yourself
Reading about a card is not the same as drawing one. A single-card reading takes about a minute and answers your question rather than a general one.
