What does Three of Swords mean as someone's feelings?

As feelings

Betrayal, separation, a painful revelation. The clearest heartbreak card in the deck.

What distinguishes it from the Five of Cups is cause. The Five is loss and mourning; the Three is a specific thing that was done or found out, and it has an edge in it. The swords are through the heart rather than beside it.

Reversed, recovery underway, or a hurt that is still governing everything. The second is worth naming without judgement: an old betrayal can organise a person's expectations for years, and it usually does so invisibly.

As somebody's feelings, it reads as hurt. Not indifference and not anger: pain, with a cause attached, which they may or may not have said out loud.

What a card can honestly tell you here

A card drawn to represent another person's feelings does not read their mind. What it can do is describe the dynamic as it reaches you: what is being expressed, what the shape of the connection is from where you sit.

That is a real answer and a smaller one than the question usually wants. Readers who promise more than that are not being straight with you.

Heartbreak, rejection, a truth that wounds.

It has happened, and the card does not offer a way around it. This is the deck at its least consoling and its most respectful: no reframe, no silver lining, no suggestion that it was for the best.

The one thing it does say is in the weather. The image includes the rain for a reason, and rain clears. That is offered as a fact rather than as comfort, which is the correct register for it.

Reversed

Beginning to heal, or refusing to.

Pain held onto past its term is the harder reading, and the card is gentle about why that happens: releasing a hurt can feel like agreeing it did not matter, which is not a trade most people will make.

Sometimes forgiveness, sometimes a wound reopened by something small that nobody else would connect to it. Both are ordinary and neither is a failure of progress.
