The Four is arrival and celebration. A stable foundation reached, and a community that shows up for it. It is one of the warmest cards in the deck and one of the least complicated.

Homecoming, marriage, milestone, a threshold crossed with people who care. Stability that is worth marking. Take the celebration seriously. It is the card's instruction.

A celebration that feels hollow, a homecoming to somewhere that is not home. Transition without the settled feeling. Tension within family or community.

Engagement, moving in, meeting family, public commitment. Warm and secure. Reversed, a relationship missing the stability it appears to have.

A milestone reached, a team that works, a workplace that feels like somewhere you belong. Reversed, instability under a settled surface.

Financial security sufficient to build a home on. Property.

Belonging. Ritual, threshold, the marking of passage. Community practice rather than solitary.

Recovery supported by other people. The social element is the medicine here.

Four wands form a garland-hung canopy, a chuppah in most readings, with two figures raising bouquets beneath and a castle behind. The structure is open on all sides: this shelter does not enclose anyone.

The wedding-canopy reading is widely accepted and probably deliberate on Waite and Smith's part, though never stated in The Pictorial Key. Marseille decks gave the four batons no scene at all.
