Cut & Clarify
Two cards for when one was not enough: the card you drew, and the card that explains it.
Draw the Cut & Clarify spread
How to read the Cut & Clarify
The smallest useful spread after a single card, and the honest version of what most readers do when a one-card draw lands and does not open.
How to read it: the first card is the answer. The second is not a second answer and it is not a better one. It is the angle you were missing on the first, and it should be read entirely in service of it.
The discipline this spread exists to enforce: one clarifier, not four. Drawing repeatedly until something pleasant appears is the single most common way people make a reading meaningless, and it is why "just one more card" deserves a spread with a hard stop built in.
If the pair still does not open, the honest conclusion is that the question is wrong rather than that the deck is being coy. Try asking what the situation is rather than what will happen.
The positions
- The CardThe answer as it came. Read this one properly before you look at the second.
- The ClarifierThe angle you were missing on the first card. Not a second answer.
