Two kinds of authority: one earned by capability and one held by position. The tradition reads the pair as skill meeting rank, and it does not assume they sit in the same person. Where they do not, the friction is the subject.

Associated with a difference in what each partner treats as authority, and with the discovery that being right and being in charge are separate things.

Read for competence under formal hierarchy. The pair is honest that the two frequently do not align and that the alignment is not automatic.

Being able to do it does not put you in charge of it, and being in charge does not mean you can. Know which you have.
