The Magician and The Devil

The two cards of power, and the tradition reads them as the same capability under different ownership. The Magician directs what is available; the Devil is what happens when the thing being directed starts doing the directing. The gesture is the giveaway: both figures raise a hand, and only one of them is free to lower it.

Associated with attraction that works, in the sense that a machine works. The pair is read as charisma with a hook in it, and it does not distinguish between the person doing the hooking and the person who cannot stop.

Talent inside something that owns it. Commonly read for work somebody is very good at and cannot leave, where the skill is real and the arrangement around it is the problem.

The question the pair puts is whose hand is on the lever. It is a fair question and the answer is often "it was mine at the start".
