The Fool and Death

The beginning and the ending, drawn together, which the tradition reads as one motion rather than two events. Death closes something completely; The Fool is what stands in the gap afterwards with nothing to defend. The pair is emphatic that the new start is only available because the old thing genuinely finished.

Associated with somebody who is out the other side rather than mid-departure. The tradition does not read this as leaving; it reads it as having left, and being unguarded again in a way that is either brave or premature.

A clean break followed by something unproven. Frequently read for career changes with more instinct than evidence behind them, which The Fool favours and Death does not soften.

The order matters more than either card. If you are still negotiating with the ending, the beginning is not actually available yet.
