The Devil and Four of Pentacles

The Devil with the last Capricorn decan, and the most materially bound pairing in the deck. The Four of Pentacles clutches one coin, stands on two and balances one on the head. The tradition reads the pair as possession that has reversed direction: the things are holding the person.

Associated with a relationship maintained by what would be lost rather than by what is wanted. Read plainly and without accusation.

Staying for the money, or for what leaving would cost. Frequently read where the figure has genuinely gone up and the satisfaction has not.

Neither figure in these two cards can use their hands. The pair is the deck asking what could be set down without anything actually ending.
