The Devil and Eight of Cups

The hold and the walking away, in the same reading. The Eight of Cups is the figure leaving the stacked cups behind under a clouded moon, going without a full explanation. Against the Devil the tradition reads it as the decision to leave something that has a grip, which the deck treats as difficult and correct.

Associated with leaving something that was not all bad, which is why it was hard. The pair does not require the thing to have been terrible to justify going.

The Eight of Cups does not look back and does not explain itself, and the tradition treats that as the correct handling of a Devil situation rather than as rudeness.
