The Chariot and Seven of Wands

Control and defence. The Chariot is driven by two sphinxes pulling opposite ways, held by will alone; the Seven of Wands is the high ground defended against six below. The tradition reads the pair as forward motion maintained under sustained pressure, and it is the most strenuous combination in this tranche.

Associated with keeping a relationship going against outside opposition. Read as effortful and as currently succeeding.

Driving something through while fending off challenge. Frequently read where the challenge is not unreasonable.

Both cards are winning by exertion rather than by advantage. Neither is sustainable indefinitely, and the pair is a question about how long is left rather than whether it is working.
