Associated with a small deception that has become a situation nobody can move in. Read as a constraint the person built themselves.

A shortcut that closed off the options it was meant to open. Frequently read where the person feels they now have no choice.

Nothing in the Eight of Swords is tied to anything and the way out is not blocked. The pair is unusually direct that the constraint is being maintained rather than imposed.
