Death and The Devil

Two cards with reputations neither has earned, drawn together. Death is transformation and it is not optional; the Devil is attachment and its whole nature is that it can be walked away from. The tradition reads the pair as something that is ending anyway, held on to.

Associated with staying past the point where something has finished. The pair is unusually gentle about the reason, which it treats as fear rather than weakness.

A role, a company or an identity that has already changed, being maintained by effort. Read for people defending a version of their work that stopped existing some time ago.

Death is going to happen regardless of the Devil. The only question the pair actually poses is how long, and how expensive.
