The Past, Present, Future spread

The classic three-card line. Where this came from, where it is now, and where it is heading if nothing changes.

Draw the Past, Present, Future

How to read it

The best-known spread in tarot and a genuinely good one, provided you read the third card correctly.

The future position is conditional, not fixed. It shows the trajectory you are currently on. That is far more useful than a prophecy, because a trajectory can be changed and a prophecy cannot.

How to read it: read all three as one sentence rather than three separate answers. The relationship between the cards carries more information than any of them alone, particularly whether the movement from past to present to future is toward something or away from it.

What each position means

  1. The PastWhat brought this about. The root, the history, what is still exerting influence.
  2. The PresentWhere things actually stand now, as opposed to how they feel.
  3. The FutureWhere this is heading on the current trajectory. Conditional, not fixed.

The question matters more than the layout. These help with both.
